The ultimate goal for both Bing and Google is to have a quality experience for their users.  If you are searching for “How to make waffles” then they want to deliver the absolute best information possible to help you with your query.  If they don’t deliver, they will lose users when someone does it better.

Bing put out it’s rules of engagement so to speak when it comes to doing SEO on Bing.com.  Read and follow carefully when you are adding content to your site and put the most emphasis on uniquness and quality.

How To SEO on Bing

1. Make sure your site is crawlable by using an XML sitemap, a robots.txt file, and well-structured on-site navigation.
2. Improve your site structure by using an HTML sitemap and linking to trusted sources both within your site and outside of it.
3. Create a solid content hierarchy by doing basic keyword research and avoiding placement of your content in rich media such as Silverlight and Flash.
4. Use a short meta title that has fewer than 65 characters and that’s unique to each page, and try to include the targeted keyword toward the beginning of that title.
5. Use a unique meta description tag.
6. Create quality content (following the guidelines Bing provided earlier).
7. When you build links, focus on keyword-relevant anchor tags that link back to quality content on your page.
8. Create an RSS feed.
9. Use schema.org markup.
10. Create a user interface that prioritizes the user experiences; the search perspective on things like page load time aren’t as important as how the user responds.
11. Encourage social sharing with the use of social buttons.
12. Don’t cloak your website.
13. Don’t use link farms.
14. Don’t engage in three-way linking.
15. Don’t duplicate content.
16. Don’t use auto-following on the social front.
17. Don’t use thin content.
18. Don’t buy links

So, if I share something on my Google plus account, everybody in my circles will see a little blip about what I shared underneath the actual search engine result. You also have a little thumbnail of whoever shared the information on Google plus.

This is going to be just one of the primary immigrations that Google will roll out that includes Google plus and its ties to search engine results and search engine optimization. Once they release the Google plus business pages, it is projected that the integration will be even deeper.

Identify Keywords

Knowing what your potential customers and clients are searching for is the first step of being successful in SEO.  If you don’t know what people are searching for, then you’re going to have a really hard time getting traffic to your site.  There are several free keyword tools available that will give you an idea of how many times a particular keyword is searched per month and on which search engine.

Analyze Current Rankings

Before you even begin your SEO or have a company begin working for you, it is very important that you know where you are currently ranking for each individual keyword.

Create website content that will “rank” for your keywords.

Now, it is time to create content on your website is optimized for that keyword. I recommend targeting one keyword per page or per post. This page or post needs to have at least 300 words and your keyword should be mentioned anywhere from 1 1/2% to 3% of the time. This is called keyword density for your SEO optimzation.

Create off-site “popularity” for your page or website for that keyword.

If you have created a buzzworthy page or post about your subject, people are going want to share it. They can share through Facebook, twitter, or even post on their website. Whenever they link back to your original post, you can consider that a vote for your content as being important to Google. This is called a backlink.  you can get back links from articles that you write and post on other websites, guest posts that you post on cooperating blogs, social media sites, and press releases. The more “votes” you get from around the web, the higher you will rank usually. Another part of these back links is making sure that the anchor text contains some of your keywords for proper SEO optimization.

Monitor rankings of your SEO optimzation

Make sure that you keep track of what is working and what is not working as you go.

the more competitive a keyword is, the longer it is going to take you to rank high for that particular keyword. There are some keyword difficulty checkers available that will give you an idea of the SEO Optimized competition before you get going.

1. Not Starting SEO Early Enough

Even organizations that are aware of SEO’s importance have a tendency to start the process too late. People in these organizations may think that SEO is about keyword selection and copywriting, but not realize that SEO also plays a critical role in technical implementation decisions. The key to remember here: it’s easier to do it right the first time than to do it over.

I have said it a thousands times to web owners who have the money and the desire but do not have a clue what niche keywords (phrases) they will be going after.  Keyword phrases, that if researched properly can change everything for them when it comes to creating a successful journey towards high rankings.

1. Research Tools:  Google’s Keyword Tool is the main research program that will allow you to find the keywords and phrases that fit your niche.

2. Strength in Numbers:  Look for a fair amount of searches for certain phrases that target your niche so it will be worth your while to go after them.  But do realize and be realistic if you are going after a very specific and very competitive sector that you may have to really dial in your niche.  Again, really understand your niche and adjust accordingly.

3. Get Specific:  Hear me when I say this – “GET SPECIFIC” and look for keyword phrases.  For example, “Boise Home Foreclosures” would get high targeted traffic for your special niche - if it were foreclosures.

4.  Highly Relevant:  Make sure that your are considering highly relevant search terms.

5.  Develop a Resource:  Can the search phrase hold water and support the development of content that will be a valuable resource to site visitors?  Will it satisfy  the preliminary needs of the visitor?  Will it be worth linking to? and What I feel to be the most important end all – Will it act as a good sales or action cycle?
